BCHN was established in 1996. Our mission is to:
- Improve the health of people and families in the Bronx. People in the Bronx are more likely to suffer from illnesses that can be prevented such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, and other conditions than the general population. Sixteen percent of Bronx residents have no health insurance to deal with these problems. We make quality health care and preventative health services available to everyone in the community, even if they are uninsured.
- Provide access to affordable, quality health care especially for uninsured persons. Our medical care and support services are low cost or free, and available to people of all races, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, immigration, or health status.
- Promote disease prevention, early treatment and healthful lifestyles. We offer a wide variety of health and wellness programs, like exercise and dance classes, community health fairs, smoking cessation programs, and health screenings.
- Obtain financial and other resources for programs and services. We make sure our health centers have the funding to bring quality services to the people who need it.
